Ginnifer Goodwin is incredibly happy to finally get the official okay to talk about Zootopia 2. Goodwin took the stage at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and shared a few tidbits about the much-anticipated sequel, which just unveiled the teaser poster and concept art.
The sequel’s voice cast is led by Goodwin as Judy the bunny and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde the fox. D23 attendees were the first to learn that Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) joined the voice cast as Gary, a trouble-making fugitive snake. Fortune Feimster is on on board as Nibbles the beaver.
“In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia 2, detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down,” reads Disney’s synopsis. “To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.”
The original film was written and directed by Byron Howard, Jared Bush, and Rich Moore. Oscar winner Bush returns for the sequel as writer and director, with Yvett Merino producing.
Zootopia was released on March 4, 2016 and grossed $75 million over its opening weekend. The PG-rated family-friendly film went on to ring up over $1 billion during its theatrical run. The sequel is targeting a November 2025 theatrical release.
