Fox officially renewed the medical dramedy Best Medicine for a second season. The new series starring Josh Charles earned a renewal ahead of its ninth episode, airing on March 3, 2026 and featuring original Doc Martin star Martin Clunes.
“Best Medicine quickly became a breakout for us this season, blending sharp humor with real heart,” stated Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network. “Liz Tuccillo brings a distinctive creative voice to the series, and Josh Charles leads an exceptional cast that audiences have embraced. We, along with Propogate, are excited to build on that momentum in season two.”
Josh Charles stars as Dr. Martin Best, Abigail Spencer (Suits) is Louisa Gavin, Annie Potts (Young Sheldon) is Aunt Sarah, Josh Segarra (Sirens) plays Sheriff Mark Mylow, and Cree (Twinless) is Elaine Denton. Recurring season one guest stars include Didi Conn as councilwoman Geneva Potter, Clea Lewis as pharmacist Sally Mylow, Stephen Spinella as Greg Garrison, Jason Veasey as George Brady, Cindy De La Cruz as Jeannie, John DiMaggio as Bert Large, Carter Shimp as Al Large, and Wattson as Copernicus.
The series premiered in January 2026 and drew in 12.6 million viewers. Fox hasn’t announced a target premiere date for the 12-episode second season.
Liz Tuccillo serves as executive producer and showrunner. Additional executive producers include Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite.
Fox’s official synopsis:
“The series centers on Dr. Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child with his Aunt Sarah. There, he encounters an eclectic group of townspeople, including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin, Sheriff Mark Mylow, and his assistant Elaine Denton.
Martin’s blunt, no-nonsense bedside manner quickly alienates the quirky locals, even though he is the only doctor they have. While he can expertly diagnose any medical mystery, he struggles with a debilitating new phobia and childhood trauma that make intimacy difficult. In a town defined by tenacity and heart, the very people Martin pushes away may ultimately be exactly what he needs.”
