Disney Channel and Disney+ have greenlit a fifth film in the popular Zombies franchise. Zombies 5 will bring back Malachi Barton and Freya Skye as Victor and Nova, and original franchise stars Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly will be involved as executive producers.
Disney Channel hasn’t confirmed a target premiere date for Zombies 5. The film franchise premiered in February 2018, Zombies 2 was released in February 2020, and Zombies 3 debuted in July 2022. Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires premiered in July 2025. Zombies 5 is expected to begin production this spring.
“Zombies has become a defining franchise for the current generation,” stated Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television. “With each movie, we intentionally push the story somewhere new. Introducing mermaids in Zombies 5 opens up a completely different dynamic while staying true to the music, characters, and themes of unity and acceptance that are at the heart of these films.”
In addition to Barton and Skye, Trevor Tordjman returns as Bucky, Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Julian Lerner as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife as Vargas. Emily Costtrici is new to the franchise and is set to play zombie Izzy, Zed’s zombie cousin and new transfer student.
Disney Channel offers this synopsis of the new franchise entry: “Following the events of Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, the newfound peace between the Daywalkers and Vampires is put to the test when a band of fierce mermaids arrives in Rayburn, making waves and casting a persuasive siren song to lure in new allies. Nova and Victor must unite their groups once more to discover what the mermaids are really after in order to protect the fragile harmony they worked so hard to build.”
The mermaids will be played by Diaana Babnicova as cool-girl Pearl, Taylor Oliver as bad-boy Fin, and Olive Mortimer as tech-wiz Sandy.
Paul Hoen returns to direct and executive produce the fifth film. Additional executive producers include Manheim, Donnelly, Jane Fleming, Mark Ordesky, Joseph Raso, and David Light. Dondraico Johnson is on board as a choreographer, and Tom Howe is writing the original score. Chris Hazzard, Michael Fontana, and Eydie Faye are the writers.
