Netflix’s Death by Lightning limited series about the assassination U.S President James Garfield has revealed the final list of cast and characters. The streamer also announced filming has finished up in Hungary.
Created by Mike Makowsky (Bad Education) and based on Candice Millard’s Destiny Of The Republic, the series “brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield, reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau — the man who would come to kill him.” Makowsky serves as writer and executive produces along with Game of Thrones‘ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Bernie Caulfield and Matt Ross also executive produce, with Ross directing all episodes.

They join previously announced series stars Betty Gilpin (The Hunt) as ‘Crete Garfield,’ Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) as ‘Charles Guiteau,’ Nick Offerman (The Last of Us) as ‘Chester Arthur,’ Michael Shannon (George & Tammy) as ‘James Garfield,’ and Laura Marcus (The Serpent Queen) as ‘Mollie Garfield.’ Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale) stars as ‘Secretary of State James Blaine,’ Shea Whigham (Joker) plays ‘Senator Roscoe Conkling,’ Paula Malcomson (Ray Donovan) is ‘Franny Scoville,’ and Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey) is ‘Kate Chase Sprague.’
Death by Lightning is expected to premiere in 2025.
