‘Cruel Intentions’ Series Preview: Cast, Photos, Trailer, and Plot Details

Prime Video calls the eight-episode Cruel Intentions series a new chapter of the cult classic. The trailer definitely captures the 1999 film’s vibe while introducing the key players in this adaptation: step-siblings Caroline Merteuil (Sarah Catherine Hook, First Kill) and Lucien Belmont (Zac Burgess, Totally Completely Fine).

The cast also includes Savannah Lee Smith as Annie Grover, Sara Silva as Cece Carroway, John Harlan Kim as Blaise Powell, Khobe Clarke as Scott Russell, Sean Patrick Thomas as Professor Hank Chadwick, and Brooke Lena Johnson as Beatrice Worth.

“In this new adaptation, Cruel Intentions follows the elite students of Manchester College, a Washington, D.C.-adjacent university, where reputation means everything, fraternities and sororities are the gold standard, and two ruthless step-siblings, Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont, will do anything to stay on top of the cutthroat social hierarchy,” reads Prime Video’s synopsis. “After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Greek Life system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation – even if that means seducing Annie Grover, the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. Hearts will be broken, loyalties will be tested, and secrets will be revealed in this modern-day royal court that is Manchester College.”

Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher are the co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers. The original film’s writer and director Roger Kumble is involved as an executive producer. Additional executive producers include Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Bruce Mellon, Andrea Iervolino, and Monika Bacardi are producers.

The original film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Reese Witherspoon opened in theaters on March 5, 1999. Made for $10 million, the R-rated romantic drama grossed $76 million during its theatrical run.

The series premieres on November 21, 2024 on Prime Video.
