Kevin Costner’s Western drama Horizon: An American Saga has set an August 23, 2024 streaming premiere date on Max. The R-rated action film debuted on Premium VOD on July 16th.
“Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many,” reads the official synopsis. “Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends, and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”
In addition to Kevin Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, and Giovanni Ribisi star. The cast also includes Abbey Lee, Will Patton, Jena Malone, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, and Jeff Fahey. Additionally, Isabelle Fuhrman, Ella Hunt, David O’Hara, Owen Crow Shoe, Tatanka Means, and Tim Guinee slip back into the Wild West. Scott Haze, Tom Payne, Alejandro Edda, James Russo, Jon Beavers, Jaime Campbell Bower, and Michael Anganaro round out the ensemble.
Chapter One of Costner’s self-financed epic opened in theaters on June 24th, and Chapter Two was originally set to follow on August 16th. Unfortunately, after a disastrous box office run, Chapter Two was pulled off Warner Bros’ summer release schedule. A new theatrical release date hasn’t been announced.
Costner’s original plan was to make a four-part Western epic, but his latest excursion into the Western genre only generated an $11 million opening weekend. It went on to gross an estimated $29 million domestically over its theatrical run, and worldwide, its total gross is just $34 million.
Costner and Jon Baird co-wrote the screenplay. Producers include Costner, Howard Kaplan, and Mark Gillard. Danny Peykoff, Robert Scannell, Armyan Bernstein, Charlie Lyons, Barry Berg, and Rod Lake executive produce.
