The first teaser trailer for Disclaimer features an eerie warning delivered in voiceover by the series’ narrator Indira Varma. “Beware of narrative and form. Their power can bring us closer to the truth. But because of our own deeply held beliefs…and the judgments that we make…they can also be a weapon with a great power to manipulate. Ladies and gentlemen…be aware.”
The seven-episode limited series stars eight-time Oscar nominee and two-time winner Cate Blanchett, Oscar winner Kevin Kline (in his series debut), three-time Oscar nominee Sacha Baron Cohen, and Oscar nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee. Oscar nominee Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George, and Hoyeon also star.
The series is based on Renée Knight’s bestselling novel, with five-time Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón (Roma, Gravity) adapting the novel and directing. The psychological thriller premieres on Apple TV+ on October 11, 2024 with the release of the first two episodes. New episodes stream on Fridays.
Cuarón and Gabriela Rodriguez executive produce for Esperanto Filmoj. Additional executive producers include Blanchett, Academy Award winner Emmanuel Lubezki, Donald Sabourin, Carlos Morales, and Anonymous Content’s David Levine and the late Steve Golin. Lubezki and Bruno Delbonnel are the directors of photography, and Academy and GRAMMY Award winner Finneas O’Connell composed the score.
The Disclaimer Plot:
“Acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett) built her reputation revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis. “As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys both her own life and her relationships with her husband Robert (Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (Smit-McPhee).”
