Wolf Pack‘s Bella Shepard has joined Paramount+’s new addition to the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. George Hawkins (Tell Me Everything) and Kerrice Brooks (My Old Ass) are also on board the original series set to star Holly Hunter and Paul Giamatti.
“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism,” reads Paramount+’s synopsis. “Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”
According to the casting announcement, Brooks, Shepard, and Hawkins are playing cadets at Starfleet Academy. Oscar-winner Holly Hunter (The Piano) stars as a captain and Starfleet Academy chancellor. Two-time Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers) will be tormenting the Academy as this season’s villain.
Filming is expected to get underway this summer.
Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau are guiding the series as co-showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber. Episode one is written by Gaia Violo who also serves as an executive producer.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.
