Netflix’s The Out-Laws trailer features a bank robbery, car chase, an awkward meeting of potential in-laws, and a reference to James Bond #5. Plus, the trailer includes a very handsome Pierce Brosnan, a description that – according to Richard Kind – isn’t a compliment.
The action comedy comes from director Tyler Spindel and stars Brosnan (Mamma Mia!), Kind (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect), Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of). Ellen Barkin (Animal Kingdom), Julie Hagerty (Marriage Story), Lil Rey Howery (Rel), Blake Anderson (Woke), Lauren Lapkus (Orange is the New Black), and Laci Mosley (A Black Lady Sketch Show) also star.
Netflix’s official synopsis reveals Owen Browning (Devine) is a straight-laced bank manager about to marry the love of his life, Parker (Dobrev). When his bank is held up by the infamous Ghost Bandits during his wedding week, he believes his future in-laws (Brosnan and Barkin) who just arrived in town, are the infamous Out-Laws.
“Owen is pretty timid and scared and a little bit of a pushover. And I think he grows a spine throughout the movie for his love of Parker, played by Nina Dobrev, who’s my fiancée in the film,” explained Adam Devine. “He just loves her so much he’s willing to risk life and limb and really kind of grows a backbone.”
Nina Dobrev describes her character as having a bit of an edge while also attempting to be a more reformed version of her parents. “You either go one way and become exactly like your parents, or you sort of try to do the opposite and be completely different than whatever your upbringing was,” said Dobrev.
The Out-Laws, written by Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, will premiere on Netflix on July 7, 2023.
