HBO’s unveiled the first two official photos from The Last of Us season two. The two new photos feature the series’ stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, but give away very little about what they’re up to.
The nine-episode first season premiered in January 2023. HBO’s confirmed season two won’t debut until 2025.
Pedro Pascal returns to star as Joel alongside Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Returning cast includes Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Newcomers to the post-apocalyptic world include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.
Catherine O’Hara will guest star in the new season.
“Based on the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation® consoles, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone,” reads HBO’s synopsis. “What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann write and executive produce season two. Additional executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells. The series is produced by PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.
