Disney+ has shared the first photos from the upcoming fantasy adventure series Renegade Nell, coming to the streaming service in spring 2024. The eight-episode season stars Derry Girls‘ Louisa Harland as a woman who’s framed for a crime she didn’t commit.
Set in the 18th century, the action series also stars Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) as Billy Blind, Frank Dillane (Fear the Walking Dead) as Charles Devereux, Adrian Lester (Trigger Point) as Earl of Poynton, and Alice Kremelberg (The Sinner) as Sofia Wilmot. The cast also includes Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Lady Eularia Moggerhanger, Pip Torrens (The Crown) as Lord Blancheford, Jake Dunn (Half Bad) as Thomas, Ényì Okoronkwo (The Lazarus Project) as Rasselas, and Craig Parkinson (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) as Sam.
BAFTA winner Sally Wainwright created the series and serves as writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Ben Taylor, Faith Penhale, Will Johnston, Lookout Point’s Louise Mutter, and Disney+’s Johanna Devereaux.
Taylor (Sex Education), Amanda Brotchie (Gentleman Jack) and MJ Delaney (Ted Lasso) direct.
Disney+ offered this description of the UK original series:
Louisa Harland plays the title role of Nell, a quick-witted and courageous young woman who finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious highwaywoman in 18th-century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind (Mohammed) appears, Nell realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined.
Frank Dillane plays Nell’s fickle friend and sometime adversary Charles Devereux, a charming rogue with a dangerous, villainous alter ego. Adrian Lester plays the Earl of Poynton, a master political schemer and manipulator who joins forces against Nell with Sofia Wilmot, played by Alice Kremelberg, a young widow who wants power and independence at any cost.
Joely Richardson plays eccentric newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger, whilst Pip Torrens appears as Lord Blancheford – the father of Sofia and her feckless, bullying brother Thomas, who is played by Jake Dunn. Ényì Okoronkwo also stars as Rasselas, a spirited stable boy who joins Nell and her sisters on the run in his own bid for freedom, with newcomers Bo Bragason and Florence Keen as Nell’s two younger sisters Roxy and George, and Craig Parkinson as Nell’s kind-hearted father Sam.
