456 people strive to survive brutal challenges and backstabbing to take home a massive prize on Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge. The season one trailer shows contestants getting a taste of life inside the game, and taking part in the same challenges as the series that inspired it.
The 10-episode season will premiere on Netflix on November 22, 2023. Unlike most bingeable Netflix releases, Squid Game: The Challenge will drop episodes weekly, leading up to the December 6th finale.
“456 real players will enter the competition show in pursuit of a life-changing reward of USD $4.56 million,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”
Anna Kidd, Louise Peet, The Garden’s Nicola Brown and John Hay, and Studio Lambert’s Tim Harcourt, Toni Ireland, Stephen Lambert, Nia Yemoh, and Stephen Yemoh serve as executive producers.
“Squid Game took the world by storm with director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” stated Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series, in June 2022 when the competition spinoff was announced. “Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real-world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”
