Carla Gugino describes the new The Fall of the House of Usher limited series as “batsh*t crazy in the best possible way.” Netflix just released the first batch of photos from the upcoming adaptation of the works of Edgar Allan Poe by Mike Flanagan along with the cast list and a short synopsis.
Flanagan created the award-winning horror shows The Haunting of Hill House (released in 2018), The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), and Midnight Mass (2021). The eight-episode The Fall of the House of Usher will premiere on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
Carla Gugino, who plays a demonic shape-shifter named Verna, spoke to Tudum about the series prior to the strike. “It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul,” said Gugino. Describing her character, Gugino teased, “There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that.”
In addition to Gugino, the huge ensemble cast includes Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Michael Trucco, T’Nia Miller, Paola Nuñez, and Henry Thomas. Kyleigh Curran, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Willa Fitzgerald, and Katie Parker also star.
The Fall of the House of Usher also features Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Aya Furukawa, Daniel Jun, Matt Biedel, Ruth Codd, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney, and Robert Longstreet.
Series creator Mike Flanagan and Michael Fimognari each directed four episodes. Intrepid Pictures’ Flanagan and Trevor Macy executive produce along with Fimognari and Emmy Grinwis.
