New Line Cinema’s unveiled the official trailer for The Nun II, the newest addition to The Conjuring franchise. The trailer delivers a little backstory on Valak, the demon nun, and finds Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene prepared to take on the incredibly evil entity.
In addition to Taissa Farmiga (The Nun), the cast of The Nun sequel includes Jonas Bloquet (Tirailleurs, The Nun), Storm Reid (The Last of Us), Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy), and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her role as the titular character. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It‘s director Michael Chaves directs from a screenplay by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper.
New Line offers this description of the follow-up to the biggest-grossing film of The Conjuring franchise:
“1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.”
The Nun was released on September 7, 2018 and The Nun II is targeting a September 8, 2023 theatrical release in North America. (Internationally on September 6th.)
The original The Conjuring film kicked off the lucrative franchise in July 2013 and rang up $320 million during its theatrical run. The spinoff Annabelle arrived in 2014 and earned $257 million, followed by The Conjuring 2 in 2016 with a $322 million gross. Annabelle: Creation premiered in 2017 and brought in $307 million. Next came The Nun in 2018 and its massive box office take of $366 million. Annabelle Comes Home debuted in 2019 and grossed $231 million, and 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It pulled in $206 million.
The Safran Company’s Peter Safran and Atomic Monster’s James Wan serve as producers. Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Victoria Palmeri, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Michael Polaire executive produce.
Chaves’ behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Tristan Nyby, production designer Stéphane Cressend, editor Gregory Plotkin, visual effects producer Sophie A. Leclerc, costume designer Agnès Béziers, and composer Marco Beltrami.
